VISTEON SOLVES SCREEN GLARE IN VEHICLE DISPLAYS

>> TrueColor Image Enhancement dynamically improves legibility of vehicle screens

VAN BUREN TOWNSHIP, Mich – Visteon Corporation, a global technology company serving the mobility industry and a leader in automotive display solutions, introduces an image processing algorithm that preserves and improves the cockpit display image quality across the full range of ambient light conditions. The Company’s TrueColor Image Enhancement enables automotive displays to achieve the image quality expectations of today’s tech-savvy consumer.

Harsh sunlight conditions in an automotive environment can make it difficult for drivers and passengers to see what is being displayed in the cockpit. Visteon’s TrueColor effectively overcomes brightness and glare to maintain the legibility of safety information. TrueColor Image Enhancement is a self-contained, hardware/software-based solution for vehicle displays.

The ISO15008 standard sets minimum legibility requirements for characters, fonts and symbols shown on vehicle displays. Screen legibility often deteriorates in bright ambient sunlight conditions with harsh reflections. TrueColor promotes compliance to this standard. This improves the user experience and improves the visibility of contents.

Visteon’s TrueColor is a dynamic algorithm solution that improves the legibility of the entire display. A proprietary integration of hardware and software components, TrueColor improves the image quality without introducing unwanted color shifts or image artifacts. Safety indicators, brand design and fine details remain visible in bright light. Moreover, TrueColor displays require less power than other technology.

"Keeping the cockpit display content legible in bright sunlight conditions is a particular challenge. Drivers increasingly expect the consistent high image-quality of their mobile phones and digital devices. Our TrueColor solution maintains display readability in bright sunlight conditions. The integrated solution operates with seamless, continuous, and instantaneous precision. With TrueColor, drivers and passengers see brilliant image quality in all lighting conditions." Jim Carpenter, Senior Director of Displays Engineering

VISTEON AND STERADIAN ANNOUNCE ADAS-FOCUSED JOINT DEVELOPMENT AGREEMENT

>> High resolution 4D imaging radars key enabler to Level 2+ autonomous driving

VAN BUREN TOWNSHIP, Mich., – Visteon Corporation, a global technology company serving the mobility industry, and Steradian Semiconductors Pvt. Ltd., an India-based high-tech imaging radar specialist, will collaborate on efforts that will produce enhanced Advance Driver-Assistance Systems (ADAS) for the global automotive market.

As part of a joint development agreement, Steradian will provide Visteon with access to its advanced 4D image radar sensor hardware and perception software technology. Imaging radars are integral to Level 2+ autonomous driving technology because they enable safety application development, AI-based perception algorithms, and sensor fusion.

Visteon’s DriveCore™ technology analyzes input from multiple sensors to understand the environment and determine appropriate action to steer, brake and accelerate the vehicle. It uses artificial intelligence for object detection and tracking, situational analysis and driver-behavior planning to enable ADAS-related features including driver monitoring, automatic lane keeping and parking assistance.

"Our Level 2+ autonomous driving technology is built on a scalable, open architecture with state-of-the-art machine-learning algorithms. These technologies along with imaging radars will enable our platform to provide improved object detection and lead to safer driving experiences." Srini Adiraju, senior director of autonomous driving at Visteon

By combining sensors and electronic processors, 4D imaging radar can calculate the size, location, direction, speed, and elevation of objects in all weather and environment conditions, including fog, heavy rain, and darkness.

"As an automotive electronics technology leader, we are excited to work with Visteon as they continuously push for the kinds of innovation that keep its automotive customers ahead of the curve. Our joint development agreement will help support safe driving experiences and eventually lead to higher levels of autonomous driving." Ashish Lachhwani, chief of business development at Steradian

Steradian provides state-of-the-art 4D imaging radar solutions for the automotive industry, as well as other traffic, precision parking and industrial applications.

VISTEON DISPLAY SOLUTION REDUCES DRIVER DISTRACTIONS

>> Active Privacy solution uses technology to adjust viewing angle of passenger display

VAN BUREN TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Visteon Corporation, a global technology company serving the mobility industry and a leader in automotive display solutions, introduces in-house developed cockpit display technology that actively alters the effective viewing angle of passenger-side infotainment content. As the industry extends digital cockpit experiences to vehicle passengers, there is a need to minimize driver distraction. Visteon’s patent-pending Active Privacy solution enables a state where the passenger display is not visible to the driver in certain contexts. This feature may be automatically activated to create a limited-viewing mode that effectively constricts the passenger-display viewing angle.

Visteon’s Active Privacy display can switch between two operating modes: a private viewing mode visible to the passenger, or a shared viewing mode visible for all vehicle occupants. Transition between viewing modes is seamless, without optical artifacts. The solution draws less power than other competing solutions which makes it ideal for electrified vehicles.

The innovative, integrated hardware/software system solution was developed by Visteon’s Advanced Display team. Their solution delivers market-leading privacy performance and works with a wide range of display technologies. Because it scales easily for any display size, aspect ratio and resolution configuration, it is compatible with system-level content management architectures.

With some applications, such as autonomous shuttles and rideshare platforms, both drivers and passengers may benefit from viewing content. In other instances, for safe operation of the vehicle, the driver must be prevented from distractions caused by entertainment content.

"The viewing angle is actively controlled and content visible to the driver can be programmed to switch by situation. For example, content visibility might be limited if the vehicle is in reverse and might then be expanded if the vehicle is shifted to park. We can tune-in the viewing angles to work with any vehicle configuration. Most importantly, our Active Privacy technology will encourage reduced driver distractions from passenger display content. That leads to safer driving experiences and helps meet regulatory standards." Qais Sharif, Global Vice President of the Display Product Line
